Everyone who launches that Steam title plays on Facepunch's server list. Buy the edition your group already owns. Xbox cosmetics stay on the Xbox account that paid for them.

Double Eleven's FAQ lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the live Console Edition platforms. Official old-gen servers closed after New Gen shipped in June 2025. In October 2025, Double Eleven said Old Gen community servers would remain open for the time being. Check your host's current availability before buying a room for that build.
Who ships each game
Facepunch Studios ships Steam Rust and publishes the dedicated-server tools on its wiki. Double Eleven publishes Rust Console Edition and runs official console wipes. Recoil and the monument list follow the studio that built the client you launched. A Steam friend invite targets Steam accounts.
Console Edition's server browser marks mixed PlayStation and Xbox rooms with a crossplay icon. Platform-only rooms exist for a PlayStation-only or Xbox-only list. Public queues default to the mixed rooms.
Console Edition in September 2026
New Gen launched on 26 June 2025, with Deluxe and Ultimate early access from 19 June 2025. Existing owners received a matching free upgrade on the same store account. Skins and Rust Coins on that account carried into New Gen.
PlayStation purchases stay on PlayStation. Double Eleven's FAQ keeps each console wallet on its own platform. The store you check out on is the home for that inventory.
Official console wipes follow Double Eleven's clock. Weekly rooms reset every Thursday at 18:00 UTC. The last Thursday of the month at 18:00 UTC is when monthly rooms reset. A given room is either a map wipe or a blueprint wipe.
Community Console Edition servers come from hosts Double Eleven names on its community servers page, currently Nitrado and GPortal. Those rooms change rules and wipe cadence inside the console build. The Public Test Branch is a separate Console Edition app on Xbox and PlayStation. Double Eleven opens it for dated test windows.

Steam Rust and PC servers
Steam Rust lives on Facepunch's PC stack. Windows is the storefront client. Facepunch documents dedicated servers for Windows and Linux. The playable client Facepunch supports for matchmaking is the Steam Windows build.
PC rooms include official Facepunch servers plus community hosts. Community PC servers run Oxide or Carbon. Hosts drop custom maps in and pick their own wipe day. A box your Steam group controls starts at Rust server hosting.
Facepunch wipes official PC rooms on the first Thursday of the month. Rust server wipe schedules covers map wipes and blueprint wipes for hosts.
Troubleshooting
Your friend appears offline in-game. Confirm both of you launched the same product: Steam Rust, Console Edition New Gen, or the old-gen console client. The PlayStation Store and Xbox Store surface more than one Rust tile.
A console invite sits pending after a store upgrade. New Gen is its own title. Both players need the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series build, and the invite has to leave from that app.
You bought skins on Xbox and opened the game on PlayStation. Those cosmetics stay on the Xbox account that paid for them.
