Rust Printed and Polished update: what server owners should check

Rust's November 5, 2026 force wipe reworks blueprints, adds the Uzi, and changes several server convars. Update the server, check loot and tech tree plugins, and note the December deadlines.

Rust Printed and Polished update: what server owners should check

TL;DR: Facepunch shipped Rust's Printed and Polished update with the November 5, 2026 force wipe. It shipped with November's monthly force wipe, so it needs a new dedicated build (Steam app 258550), and every server has to update before updated players can join. The big change for owners is the blueprint rework, so check any plugin that touches loot, kits, or tech trees.

Do you need to do anything? Yes. Back up, update the server and your mod framework, then test plugins before you open. Also note two changes coming next patch and one in December.

What's new in the November 2026 update

These points come from Facepunch's Printed and Polished post:

  • Blueprint rework. Workbenches no longer need blueprint fragments to craft, and scrap isn't spent on tech trees. Three tiers (blueprint fragments, pages, and books) now pay for tech tree levels.
  • Research. Players can still research items with scrap at the research table.
  • New loot. The lowest blueprint tier can drop from barrels and boxes, and it can be upgraded to the next tier.
  • Packet batching. It's on by default. Facepunch says it cut traffic by 25% on a 500-player server. Servers can toggle it with batchpackets.
  • Network LODs. Two new convars, net.position_lod and net.position_lod_players, send less position data for far-away entities. Both take 0, 1, or 2.
  • Jobs 4. UsePlayerUpdateJobs level 4 is now the default.
  • Faster restarts. Facepunch says the highest-population servers went from about 10 minutes to about 2.
  • Lighthouse. Repairing a lighthouse starts the deep sea cycle. Maps without one start with it already active.

Players also get the Uzi 9mm. Intel Mac clients are no longer supported (Apple Silicon only).

Does the update break anything?

The map does: a force wipe needs a fresh save. Facepunch's post doesn't say whether blueprints were wiped this month. Check the official post and changelog before you tell players what resets.

Plugins are the likely problem. Facepunch's changelog removes the Basic and Advanced Blueprint Fragment items and adds Blueprint Fragment, Blueprint Page, and Blueprint Book.

Anything that hands out, sells, or tracks the old fragments may hit missing items. That includes loot tables, kits, shops, and tech tree tweaks. Test those first.

Plan for these deadlines too:

ChangeWhen
Jobs 3 mode removedPlanned for next patch
-useOldNavmesh startup option removedNext patch
Old way for plugins to force a client map load blocked (switch to the CL_LoadMap RPC)December

If your startup line or server.cfg uses -useOldNavmesh or sets UsePlayerUpdateJobs to 3 (the default is now 4), plan to drop it now.

How to update

  1. Run server.save, wait for it to finish, then stop the server.
  2. Back up your identity folder, configs, and plugin data.
  3. Update the dedicated server (Steam app 258550), then your Oxide/uMod or Carbon build.
  4. Start it and wait for Server startup complete in Console before anyone joins.
berrybyte Create Backup dialog with an optional backup name field and a Create Backup button
Name the backup something like Before November wipe.

On berrybyte, open Backups → Create Backup first. Then check Game settings → Modding Framework still matches the framework your server uses.

Starting the server checks for the Rust update and refreshes that framework. If Oxide or Carbon hasn't released a matching build yet, restart again once it has. Our wipe and update guide has the full steps, including SteamCMD for self-hosts.

Can you roll back?

Not in any useful way. Once players update their game, they can't join a server still on the old build. If a plugin breaks, restore only that plugin's config and data files from your backup, not the whole server, and wait for a fixed release.

Quick answers

When is the next Rust force wipe? Facepunch's monthly wipe is the first Thursday of the month, so Thursday, December 3, 2026, if the default schedule holds. See our wipe schedule guide.

Were blueprints wiped this month? Facepunch's post doesn't say either way. Tell players exactly what you reset before you open.

berrybyte Rust hosting starts at $14.95/mo, with backups, DDoS protection, and a Vanilla, Oxide, or Carbon choice in Game settings. If the update fails, open a support ticket with the first error from Console.
