The ridge east of the Sealed Realm of the Guardian, around 180, -39, is the coal pin to fly to first. Game8 and ScalaCube put a mid-game ore-and-coal base on that peak. GamerFuzion uses the same pin. Fast travel there, then climb or fly onto the mesa.
Coal feeds Refined Ingots (2 Coal + 2 Ore in an Improved Furnace) and Carbon Fiber (2 Coal + 1 Flame Organ). You will use those materials for Ultra Spheres, firearms, and late-game equipment. Black rocks drop raw coal. palworld.wiki.gg and paldb.cc both gate those rocks at Mining 3 for assigned Pals. You can break them yourself with a pickaxe. A Metal Pickaxe or better finishes the cluster sooner.
Palworld 1.0 stretched Work Suitability across a 1-10 scale. Digtoise now shows Mining 4. Anubis sits at 6. Astegon and Blazamut share Mining 7 with Knocklem. Aegidron tops the current paldb.cc sheet at 8.
Coal location table
Coordinates below are in-game map pins that several 1.0 guides independently published. Node counts come from those writeups. Walk the ridge yourself if a pin sits a few meters off your seed’s slope.
| Location | Coordinates | Fast travel | Nodes (published counts) | Temperature | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sealed Realm of the Guardian ridge | 180, -39 | Sealed Realm of the Guardian | About 6 coal plus a pile of ore (Game8 / GamerFuzion). Pins at 190, -40 and 189, -37 sit on the same peak. | Mild | First coal-and-ore Palbox |
| Twilight Dunes, Anubis side | -157, -92 | Twilight Dunes / Anubis statue | About 5 coal (AllThings.How; EIP uses -158, -92) | Hot days, cold nights | Early desert loop |
| Twilight Dunes rock shelf | -97, -120 | Twilight Dunes | About 6 coal on an isolated formation (AllThings. How; EIP uses -96, -118) | Hot days, cold nights | Second desert stop on the same trip |
| Mount Obsidian west | -571, -648 | Mount Obsidian Anubis Statue | A dense late-game coal field; AllThings.How counted about 6 near -570, -652 | Hot | Skill-fruit neighborhood plus coal |
Pindrop’s live marker dump puts 261 of 553 coal rocks in Twilight Dunes. Raw volume lives there. The Guardian ridge is the pin for a single Palbox that also eats ore.
How a manual run looks
Wear Heat Resistant Pelt Armor or a later heat set in Twilight Dunes and on Mount Obsidian during the day. Desert nights swing cold, so a cold piece in the bag saves a corpse run. The Guardian ridge stays mild, and that climate is the usual first Palbox.
Teleport in and clear every black rock in sight. Haul the stack home, then move to the next pin. The Anubis-side Twilight Dunes stop and the -97, -120 shelf sit close enough to chain on a flying mount.
Assign a Mining 3+ Pal to break rocks while you gather the drops. Digtoise lives in that desert. Anubis shares the dunes. Blazamut fits Mount Obsidian once you can handle the heat.
Automated production
Drop a Palbox so the Guardian ridge nodes sit inside the build radius. Build a Feed Box and beds. Park a chest beside the rocks. Mining Pals on that base work the nodes on the world’s collection timer. On a dedicated server you can shorten that wait with CollectionObjectRespawnSpeedRate in PalWorldSettings.ini. Pocketpair documents that key as a respawn interval multiplier, so values under 1.0 pull nodes back sooner. See configure Palworld server settings.
The Coal Mine (also labeled Coal Quarry in some menus) is the structure that makes coal at any base. Current databases disagree on its technology level, so open the Ancient Technology tab in your client for the number that matches your build. Both wiki.gg and paldb.cc list the recipe as 70 Stone, 100 Coal, 30 Paldium Fragments, and 10 Ancient Civilization Parts. Assigned Pals need Mining 1 for the building itself. The wild rocks still ask for Mining 3.
Sakurajima and later islands add extra coal fields. Those are extras once the Guardian ridge and a Coal Mine are already paying the Refined Ingot bill.
Gunpowder starts with sulfur mining coordinates. Circuit Boards wait in the snow at the best Pure Quartz mines.
A Palworld server keeps that mining base running after you log off, so Digtoise can fill the chest while you sleep.
FAQs
Where is the single best coal pin in Palworld 1.0?
180, -39, east of the Sealed Realm of the Guardian. Guides that quote 190, -40 are standing on the same mesa.
What Mining level do Pals need for coal rocks? Mining 3 on the current paldb.cc / wiki.gg threshold. Work Suitability now runs to 10, so a Digtoise at 4 or an Astegon at 7 both qualify and finish faster.
When can I build a Coal Mine? After the Coal Mine appears in your Ancient Technology tab. Published databases disagree on its level, so use the value shown by your current game build.
How many coal rocks sit in Twilight Dunes? Pindrop’s marker count lists 261 of 553 there. Verdant Brook has 12. The Guardian ridge is still the first Palbox because ore sits in the same radius.
How fast do coal nodes come back?
On the world’s collection timer. Dedicated hosts change the interval with CollectionObjectRespawnSpeedRate. Pocketpair defines this key as an interval multiplier, so 0.5 cuts the standard wait in half.
