RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 is live: what changed for servers

Dragonwilds 1.0 brings PC and console crossplay, invite-code joining, and the Scorned Wilderness endgame. Here is what dedicated-server owners need to update.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 is live: what changed for servers

Jagex released RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 on September 15, 2026. The game is live on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Crossplay connects those platforms to the same worlds.

The release adds the Scorned Wilderness, the Regicide quest, and Kuldra, the God-Eater. New endgame rewards include Rune armour, Infinity Robes, Obsidian gear, and the Fire Cape. The Nightmare Crucible lets players upgrade lower-power weapons for the Kuldra fight.

For server owners, 1.0 changes how mixed-platform groups join and makes a matching server build essential.

Your server needs the 1.0 build

The Dragonwilds client and dedicated server must use the same version. A player who updates to 1.0 cannot find a server that remains on the previous build.

berrybyte checks Steam app 4019830 during startup when Auto Update is enabled. Stop the server cleanly, create a backup, then start it once. Watch Console until the world finishes loading before inviting players.

Self-hosters can update the existing installation with SteamCMD:

steamcmd +force_install_dir /path/to/dragonwilds +login anonymous +app_update 4019830 validate +quit

Read the server version near the top of RSDragonwilds.log. The client version appears in the top-left corner of the game. Those values should match.

Crossplay now reaches dedicated servers

Dragonwilds 1.0 supports crossplay across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Jagex also added crossplay options for dedicated servers.

Console players can join a hosted world while the server tool continues to run on 64-bit Windows or Linux. One dedicated world holds up to 6 players. Hosting from inside the game holds 4.

Jagex's 1.0 release notes also introduce invite codes. Players enter a code in the world browser, and the host can find the active code in the in-game pause menu. Public worlds remain visible in the browser.

The existing Steam invitation issue still applies to dedicated servers. Use the world browser or the new invite code when a Steam overlay invitation fails.

Existing worlds can move to 1.0

Keep the original .sav filename when moving a world. Dragonwilds stores progression against that name, so a renamed file can load without the progress players expect.

Stop the server and back up RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames. Update the server, start the world on 1.0, then check buildings, inventories, and quest progress with one player. Our world migration guide covers the Windows and Linux paths.

Scorned Wilderness continues Kuldra's Saga with the Regicide quest and the Kuldra raid. Groups returning to an older save can continue their established world after the server update.

Owner ID and passwords still matter

The dedicated-server setup still uses DedicatedServer.ini. Jagex's current guide requires:

  • OwnerId
  • ServerName
  • DefaultWorldName
  • AdminPassword

WorldPassword remains optional.

Copy My Player ID from the bottom of the in-game Settings menu into OwnerId. A missing Owner ID prevents the server from starting. Stop the process before editing the file because Dragonwilds discards configuration changes made while it runs.

On berrybyte, these fields live under Settings → Game Settings. The Dragonwilds 1.0 setup guide explains the first boot and file paths.

If the server disappears after 1.0

Check the version first. Store updates can reach clients before Steam publishes the matching dedicated build.

Once the versions match, confirm that the world finished loading. Check the Owner ID, then use the current world name or invite code. A self-hosted server also needs its selected UDP game port reachable. The default is 7777.

The Dragonwilds 1.0 connection guide walks through each server-side check.
