RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0: what's in the full release, and what it means for servers

Dragonwilds 1.0 launches 15 September 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, with Game Pass and PS Plus Extra/Premium. In-game co-op is 4; a dedicated server holds 6. The server tool is PC-only. Console joining of rented servers remains unconfirmed.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds leaves Early Access on 15 September 2026. The Jagex launch announcement set the date and the first console list. Later the same summer, Jagex added Switch 2, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation Plus. This post is the server version of that news: which platforms are confirmed, what a dedicated server actually does, and what Jagex has not written down yet.

If you want the world online before launch day, start a Dragonwilds server and get the Owner ID in before the queue hits.

What's in the full release

The September 15 build adds the Scorned Wilderness update and the final fight with Kuldra, the Dragon Queen. Jagex's release-date announcement also says 1.0 includes the content built through Early Access, including the Umbral Sands expansion.

Umbral Sands arrived on PC in June with a desert heat system, Fuzan and the replayable Fight Cave, Adamant and Red Dragonhide gear, magic-carpet mounts, and new allies and enemies. The full release brings that accumulated world to the new console versions, then closes Kuldra's Saga with the Scorned Wilderness raid, its boss fight, and Rune armour.

For server owners, this is one shared game build rather than a separate "console edition." Clients and the dedicated server still need matching versions after the launch update. Back up the world, update Steam app 4019830, and confirm the version before treating a missing server as a network problem.

Confirmed 1.0 platforms

As of Jagex's 19 August 2026 Game Pass post and the console release note, 1.0 is the same-day launch on:

  • PC — Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Jagex Launcher
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Nintendo Switch 2 (digital Standard Edition on the 15th)

Physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are listed for Q4 2026. That does not change the digital day-one list.

Game Pass and PlayStation Plus

Jagex's wording, not ours: 1.0 is available day one with Xbox Game Pass, and on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium the same day. Jagex has not broken Game Pass down into Console vs PC vs Ultimate in that press release, so we are not going to invent a SKU.

That is a large install base of people who can open the game without buying it on the 15th. It is not, by itself, a statement about dedicated servers.

Crossplay is confirmed. Console dedicated-server joins are not.

Jagex has said the game has crossplay across the platforms above. The RuneScape news post repeats it: no matter which of those platforms you play on, crossplay is on.

That is in-game multiplayer. It is not the same sentence as "a PS5, Xbox, or Switch 2 client can search for and join a PC dedicated server."

We have not found a current primary Jagex source that says console clients can join a rented or self-hosted dedicated server. The official dedicated-server how-to (also mirrored on the official wiki) covers Windows and Linux hosts, SteamCMD app 4019830, and finding a world from the Public tab. It does not mention PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch 2 as server clients. Store copy that says "up to 4 players" matches the in-game co-op cap, not the dedicated-server cap.

So this remains unconfirmed. We are not going to write that console players join your rented world until Jagex says so in a how-to, FAQ, or patch note. If that confirmation lands on the 15th, we will update this post and the join guide with the source.

What is confirmed: consoles cannot host the dedicated server. The tool is a PC Steam product. There is no console build of it.

Four in-game. Six on a dedicated server.

This is the number that matters if your group is larger than a sofa.

If five or six of you want the same Ashenfall, a dedicated server is not a convenience. It is the only way Jagex's own docs say you fit.

RAM on that server is also published: 2 GB base + 1 GB per player, so 8 GB for a full six. That is in the same how-to. A berrybyte plan is sized to that formula.

What the dedicated server does

A dedicated server is a separate, always-on process. It is not someone leaving the game open.

It does:

  • Keep the world running after the host logs off.
  • Hold 6 players, two more than listen-server co-op.
  • Load the latest .sav in RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames, or create a default Standard world if that folder is empty.
  • Split people into Owner, Admin, and regular users. The Owner is the Player ID in DedicatedServer.ini. Admins are whoever typed the admin password on the Server Management screen. Owners can ban and unban anyone; admins can ban online regulars and cannot unban.
  • Optionally lock the world with a world password.

It does not:

  • Run on PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch 2. The tool is Windows and Linux only.
  • Let you skip the Owner ID. Jagex says the server will not start without it.
  • Accept a renamed .sav as "the same world." Renaming breaks progress. The migration guide is the whole procedure.
  • Honour Steam invites the way you expect. Jagex lists that as a known issue. Friends find the world from Worlds → Public by exact, case-sensitive world name.
  • Keep DedicatedServer.ini edits you make while it is running. Those writes are discarded. Stop, edit, start.
  • Come with Jagex-written cloud-host docs. Their how-to still says cloud providers are pending. That is their gap, not a claim that hosting does not exist.

Owner ID

OwnerId is your RuneScape: Dragonwilds Player ID: 32 characters, copied from the bottom of the in-game Settings menu (the client labels it My Player ID). Paste it into DedicatedServer.ini before the first start.

You have to launch the game to get it. Other players do not need it to join. It makes you the world owner. A blank value is why a fresh self-host sits there and never advertises.

On berrybyte the field is on the server before boot. We will not start the process empty. The setup guide is the longer walkthrough.

The dedicated server tool is PC-only

Jagex distributes RuneScape: Dragonwilds - Dedicated Servers as a free Steam tool, app 4019830. Install with Steam or:

steamcmd +force_install_dir C:\MyInstallFolder +login anonymous +app_update 4019830 +quit

64-bit Windows and Linux only. Anonymous SteamCMD login is enough; you do not buy the server app. You still need access to the game client to play and to retrieve the required Owner ID. Jagex's current setup guide documents that Owner ID flow on PC; it has not documented a console-only server-owner flow.

Default game port is UDP 7777. Versions must match after every patch; the server version is at the top of its log, the client version is in the top-left of the game.

Move the solo world you already have

The official copy sequence is stop the server, back up Savegames, empty that folder, copy your .sav in without renaming it, then restart. Client saves are at %LOCALAPPDATA%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\Savegames. The don't-rename rule is the one that loses progress when people skip it.

Step-by-step, including Windows vs Linux folder casing, is in Move your solo Dragonwilds world to a server. On berrybyte that upload is included.

Host 1.0 on berrybyte

Start a RuneScape: Dragonwilds server if you want the 6-player world online without running SteamCMD at home. Plans follow the 4-seat and 6-seat caps, the Owner ID is a required field, and you can bring the .sav you already have.
