How to convert a Bedrock world to Java Edition
Export a Minecraft Bedrock world as a .mcworld file from Game Settings, then run it through Chunker (chunker.app) to produce a Java Edition save you can upload to your server. Conversion isn't perfect due to format differences.
To play a Bedrock world on a Java server, export it from Bedrock Edition as a
.mcworld file, then convert it with Chunker (chunker.app). Conversion isn't
perfect: Java and Bedrock differ enough in blocks and mechanics that some
details won't survive the trip.
Export your world from Bedrock
Open the world list
Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition and click Play.
Edit the world
Find the world you want to convert and click its edit button (the pencil icon).
Export it
Scroll to the bottom of the Game Settings page and click Export World.
Save the file
Save the resulting .mcworld file somewhere you can find it.
Convert and bring it to Java
From here, follow the same tool and steps as the general guide:
Convert a Minecraft world between Java and Bedrock.
Upload the .mcworld file to Chunker, and when you choose the target
version, match your server's installed Java version, shown under
Settings → Game Settings → Server software, so the converted world loads
without a mismatch.
Keep the original Bedrock world until you've confirmed the converted Java copy loads and looks right.
Once the converted world is on your server, back it up before anyone starts playing so you have a clean copy to fall back to if the conversion missed something.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a Bedrock world to Java for free?
Yes. Chunker (chunker.app) is free and doesn't require an account.
Will my Bedrock world look identical after converting to Java?
Close, but not identical. Java and Bedrock differ enough in blocks and mechanics that some details won't carry over cleanly, so test the converted world before committing to it.
What Java version should I pick when converting?
Match your server's installed version, shown under Settings → Game Settings → Server software, so the converted world loads without version mismatches.
