How to join a Dragonwilds server

Join a Dragonwilds dedicated server from Worlds → Public by searching the exact, case-sensitive world name. Covers Jagex's Steam-invite known issue and workaround, berrybyte and self-host steps, and what is still unconfirmed for PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2.

Players join a Dragonwilds dedicated server from the in-game Worlds browser, not by pasting an IP as the first step. On PC, open Worlds → Public and search the exact world name. Jagex's dedicated-server guide is explicit: that search is case sensitive, and it matches the world the server is running — not the Server Name shown as Created By.

A dedicated server holds 6 players. In-game co-op (a player hosting from their own machine) stops at 4. Joining players never need the Owner ID; only the host does.

Jagex documents a known issue: inviting someone to a dedicated server with a Steam invitation does not currently connect as intended. Send the exact world name and have them search Worlds → Public. See Steam invitations below.

What you need

  • A running dedicated server. The world has to finish starting before it can appear. On berrybyte, Overview shows the world name once setup is done and the server is up.
  • The exact world name, copied rather than retyped if you can. Capital letters matter. The name is at most 16 characters.
  • The WorldPassword, if the host set one. This is not the Admin Password.

The Public tab finds a world by its world name. The Server Name is only a label (Created By) in that list. Searching berrybyte when the world is called Ryans World will find nothing.

Find the world name

Open Overview

Sign in to the dashboard and open the Dragonwilds server. Stay on Overview.

Copy the world name

The card Find this world in Dragonwilds is the name players search. Click Copy. If it says Not published yet, the Owner ID or world name is still missing — the owner has to finish setup and start the server before anyone can join.

Send the name and the password

Share the world name exactly as copied. If World Password is set under Settings → Game Settings, send that too. Direct connection (IP:port) is on the same card as a fallback — it may only find servers on the local network, so do not lead with it.

For a server-created world, the searchable name is DefaultWorldName in DedicatedServer.ini, not ServerName. For an imported world, it is the original .sav filename without the extension.

Confirm the server is running the world you think it is

On Linux the file is RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/DedicatedServer.ini. On Windows it is RSDragonwilds/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/DedicatedServer.ini. Read DefaultWorldName from a stopped server for a world it created. If you imported a save, use that file's unchanged basename instead.

Send that exact string

Friends type this into Worlds → Public. Do not include .sav, and do not send the Server Name unless it happens to match the active world.

Join from PC

This is the path Jagex documents under Finding my Dedicated Server.

Launch Dragonwilds and open Worlds

Start the game, choose Play, and open the Worlds screen.

Open the Public tab

Dedicated servers are listed with public worlds. Friends-only listen worlds do not appear here.

Search the exact world name

Type the world name in the search field exactly, including capitals. Wait a few seconds. Ashenfall and ashenfall are different searches.

Join, enter the password if asked, pick a character

Select the world, enter the WorldPassword if the host set one, choose a character, and click Play.

If the Public list stays empty, try the Direct tab with the host:port from Overview (IP before the colon, port after). Official docs do not treat Direct as the internet join path, and it may only find a server on your local network. Search by world name first.

Steam invitations do not connect

Jagex's dedicated-server how-to and the official wiki both list this under Known issues:

Inviting a player to your Dedicated Server via Steam Invites doesn't currently connect as intended.

That is a game bug, not a bad invite code. Retrying the Steam overlay will not fix it.

Workaround: ignore Steam invites for dedicated servers. Copy the exact world name, send it in chat, and have every player search Worlds → Public. On berrybyte, that name is the Overview copy button. If a WorldPassword is set, send that in the same message.

PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2

RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 launches on 15 September 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Jagex has confirmed crossplay across those platforms. That is not the same question as whether a console client can join a PC dedicated server.

What we knowStatus
1.0 ships on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2Confirmed
Crossplay between those clients (friends / in-game co-op)Confirmed
Dedicated-server tool is PC-only (Windows and Linux)Confirmed
Consoles cannot host a dedicated serverConfirmed
Console clients can browse and join a PC dedicated serverUNCONFIRMED

In-game co-op is a player-hosted world with a 4-player cap. A dedicated server is a separate PC process with a 6-player cap. Crossplay can exist for the first without the second. Jagex has not published whether the console Worlds browser lists rented or self-hosted dedicated servers.

Launch-day check (not done yet). On 15 September 2026 we will verify the live PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 clients against a PC dedicated server and update this section with a yes or no — including the exact console buttons if join works. Until that check is written here, do not treat console dedicated-server join as confirmed.

The PS5 release is included with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, the Xbox release is included with Xbox Game Pass, and Switch 2 receives a digital Standard Edition. Those access offers do not prove that any of the three console builds can join a PC dedicated server.

There is no responsible console walkthrough to publish before the live builds answer the question. On launch day, the check is:

Open Worlds on the console build

Confirm whether PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 expose a Public tab or another dedicated-server browser.

Search a known PC dedicated world

If a Public search exists, enter the exact active world name and test a password-protected and an open world.

Record the result here

Replace this checklist with the confirmed buttons and requirements, or state clearly that console clients cannot join. Until then, a PC is the only documented client path.

If the world does not appear

Stop guessing and work through Dragonwilds: can’t connect to server — every fix in order: matching versions after a patch, a missing or wrong Owner ID, the exact world name, the single UDP game port, a WorldPassword that was never shared, then mods. Test with one player and stop when a fix works.

Frequently asked questions

How do I join a Dragonwilds dedicated server?

On PC, open Worlds → Public and search the exact world name. The search is case sensitive and matches the world name, not the server name shown as Created By. Select the world, enter the WorldPassword if one is set, pick a character, and play.

Why don't Steam invitations connect to a dedicated server?

Jagex lists this as a known issue — Steam invites to a dedicated server do not currently connect as intended. Share the exact world name instead and have players search it under Worlds → Public. Do not keep retrying the Steam invite.

Can PS5, Xbox or Switch 2 players join a dedicated Dragonwilds server?

Unconfirmed. Jagex has confirmed 1.0 crossplay across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, and that the dedicated-server tool is PC-only. Whether a console client can browse and join a PC dedicated server has not been published. We will update this page on 15 September 2026 after checking the live console builds.

What do I type in the Public tab search?

Type the active world's exact name, including capitalisation. For a world created by the server, that is DefaultWorldName. For an imported world, use the original .sav filename without the .sav extension. Do not search the Server Name shown as Created By.

Do joining players need the Owner ID?

No. The Owner ID is the host's 32-character Player ID and is required for the dedicated server to start and advertise. Friends only need the world name and, if one is set, the WorldPassword.
