Dragonwilds: migrate Xbox / PC Game Pass saves to a server
Convert RuneScape Dragonwilds Xbox / PC Game Pass WGS saves to .sav and move your world to a dedicated server.
You can move a supported Dragonwilds Xbox / PC Game Pass world to a dedicated server: copy its Windows WGS saves, convert the world to .sav, then upload it. Xbox console players need a Windows PC first. PS5 and Switch 2 worlds have no supported export route.
This uses a community extraction method. Conversion happens on your device; your saves are never uploaded to berrybyte.
Choose files, check your world, download .sav.
Skip conversion and upload your existing world.
Which saves can you migrate?
| Platform | What to do |
|---|---|
| PC Game Pass / Xbox app / Microsoft Store on Windows | Back up WGS, convert to .sav, upload. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Sync to the installed Xbox app game on Windows, then use the PC steps. |
| Steam on Windows | Upload the existing .sav. |
| PS5 / Nintendo Switch 2 | No supported world export. Crossplay still works. |
1. Sync your Xbox world to Windows
Already playing the installed PC Game Pass version? Skip to step 2.
- Save and quit on Xbox. Close Dragonwilds and let the console sync online. Avoid playing the same world on both devices while copying it.
- Install Dragonwilds locally on Windows through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store, using the same Microsoft account. Steam does not download Xbox saves; Cloud Gaming does not create a local WGS folder.
- Wait for sync, then open your world. Confirm your base and latest progress are present. Save and close the game completely.
Dragonwilds supports Xbox Play Anywhere, which carries progress between Xbox and Windows. If your world is missing, fix the account or cloud-sync issue first. The converter cannot fetch Xbox cloud saves for you.
2. Find and back up your WGS saves
Press Windows + R, paste this path, and press Enter:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\JagexLimited.Dominion_srxstwq7wczqa\SystemAppData\wgsCopy the whole wgs folder somewhere safe. Keep that backup untouched and use a second copy in the converter.
Include the account folder, its subfolders, extensionless blobs, .xav files, and backups. Keep container.* files beside their blobs: supported descriptors help identify world saves and backups. containers.index is metadata, not the world itself. Character files alone will not work.
WGS is the folder name. “.wsg to .sav” is a common search spelling, but many WGS saves have no extension. Choose the copied folder instead of guessing which long-named file is your world.
Path missing? Open %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages, find your JagexLimited.Dominion_… package, then open SystemAppData\wgs. If it is empty, launch the locally installed Xbox app game, finish syncing, load the world, save, and close it before copying again.
3. Convert your world to .sav
Open the Dragonwilds save converter.
- Choose folder and select your copied account folder, or use Choose files for a standard ZIP or individual saves. Keep container metadata with the blobs when possible.
- Check the world name and save time. Compare with your last session. A Backup may contain older progress; Current / backup unknown requires you to check the source before continuing. File size does not prove which copy is latest.
- Download
.sav. The filename uses the world’s internal name, preserving spaces and capitalisation.
Keep the exact filename shown by the tool. Mads world must remain Mads world.sav. Do not add a date or _converted. If the browser adds (1) after a repeat download, restore the displayed filename before uploading.
Conversion checks the file structure, not gameplay. Keep your original backup until you have loaded the world on a matching server build and checked your base, storage, and progress. Unsupported or damaged saves are rejected.
4. Upload to your server
Use the Jagex-documented server save folder:
RSDragonwilds/Saved/Savegames- Stop the server and back up its existing saves.
- Empty the save folder, then upload your converted
.savwith its exact name. Leaving another.savcan load the wrong world: Jagex says the server chooses the latest one present. - Set Owner ID from My Player ID in the game’s Settings. Match World Name to the converter’s name, without
.sav. On berrybyte, upload through Files or SFTP; keep the existing directory casing on Linux. - Start a matching server build. Find the exact world name under Worlds → Public, check your world, leave and rejoin, then restart the server and check again. Take a new backup once verified.
See server setup or the full upload walkthrough for panel instructions.
Worlds and characters are separate. This tool preserves world data and player IDs; it does not move an Xbox character to Steam. Join with your existing Xbox character and check its progress. The server world is also a separate copy: it does not keep syncing back to your Xbox cloud world.
PS5 and Switch 2 save migration
There is no supported way to export a Dragonwilds PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2 world for a dedicated server. This converter needs an accessible WGS payload or .sav file.
Jagex’s console FAQ distinguishes crossplay from save transfer. The Xbox route uses Microsoft’s Xbox / Windows bridge; PS5 and Switch 2 do not have that route.
- PS5: Individual PS5 saves use cloud storage, rather than the USB-copy option for PS4 saves. A full console backup restores a PS5; it does not export a Dragonwilds
.sav. - Switch 2: Saves stay in system memory and cannot be copied to microSD Express. Cloud backups do not supply a Windows world file.
You can still join a compatible dedicated server through crossplay. You play in its world; your previous console world is not transferred.
Troubleshooting
No supported world found
Choose the whole copied account folder, including subfolders and blobs. Metadata or character files alone are insufficient. Sync and save locally if the folder is empty.
Checksum or decompression error
Close the game and make a fresh copy or ZIP. Do not edit the original blob or strip bytes. If it still fails, keep the original world; the format may be unsupported.
Several copies of the same world
Compare save time and source. Metadata labels do not prove a copy is the latest cloud version. If unsure, check the original world, save normally, and copy again.
New or wrong world on the server
Stop it. Check the actual save path, .sav extension, exact filename, Linux casing, and competing saves. Read the startup log for load errors.
Buildings remain, but my character looks new
Join with the same platform account and character. World conversion does not transfer Xbox characters to Steam. Check the original character before assuming progress was erased.
World missing or CONNECTION LOST
Check versions, Owner ID, exact world name, UDP reachability, and passwords. Follow every connection fix; keep the converted save.
Sources and verification
Official sources document server imports, the Xbox / Windows sync bridge, console storage, and separate world / character saves. WGS extraction is community research, not an official Jagex format guarantee.
- Game Pass-to-server report and independent reversible format test establish the reported WGS path and 12-byte wrapper with a zlib-compressed world.
- SPUD’s save-info implementation and Dragonwilds format research explain the SAVE chunks and world metadata.
The converter checks wrapper fields, decompressed size, checksum, SAVE boundaries, world metadata, and the output name. It exports the world bytes unchanged. We verified byte-for-byte extraction using a public Dragonwilds world sample wrapped in the reported Xbox format; this is a file-format test, not a live Xbox-to-server gameplay test.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move a Dragonwilds Xbox or PC Game Pass world to a dedicated server?
Yes, using a community extraction method for supported WGS saves. Xbox console players first sync to the locally installed Xbox app game on Windows with the same Microsoft account. Back up the WGS folder, convert the world to .sav, and upload it to a stopped server with its exact name.
Where are RuneScape Dragonwilds PC Game Pass saves stored?
The community-reported path is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\JagexLimited.Dominion_srxstwq7wczqa\SystemAppData\wgs. Close the game and back up the whole folder, including container metadata and extensionless blobs.
How do I convert a Dragonwilds .wsg file to .sav?
Choose a copied folder, ZIP, or supported save file in the free berrybyte converter. It decompresses the world locally and names the .sav from its internal world name. WGS is the storage folder name; .wsg is a common search spelling, and many saves have no extension. Renaming an extension alone does not convert the data.
Can I migrate a Dragonwilds PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2 world?
No supported world-export route is available for PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2. Their console backups do not provide the WGS or .sav file needed for migration. Jagex supports crossplay, so you can join a compatible server, but that does not transfer your console world.
Will my Xbox character, levels, and inventory transfer to Steam?
This moves the world, not the character or account. Character saves are separate and player IDs stay unchanged. Join with your existing Xbox character and verify its progress. A new Steam character does not inherit Xbox levels or inventory.
Does my dedicated server keep syncing with my Xbox cloud world?
No. The dedicated-server world is a separate copy. New server progress does not continuously sync back to the original Xbox cloud world.
Why did the converter find a world and a backup with the same name?
Backups can share a world name. Supported container metadata helps label them. Current / backup unknown means the role could not be determined. Compare the save time and source with your last session; the largest file is not necessarily the latest.
