Enshrouded 1.0: how to update your server
Update an Enshrouded dedicated server to 1.0 with Auto Update on berrybyte or SteamCMD app 2278520. Back up first, because 1.0 converts Early Access saves to a new format and resets the skill tree. Match client versions, wait for HostOnline, and verify the save.
Enable Auto Update in Settings → Game Settings, then start the stopped server. berrybyte checks for the current dedicated build before launching Enshrouded.

What 1.0 changes for servers
Enshrouded 1.0 released on October 15, 2026. Keen's 1.0 changelog and launch FAQ confirm:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| World wipe? | No. Early Access saves work in 1.0 |
| Save format | New and smaller. An older save is backed up, then converted the first time 1.0 loads it |
| Skill tree | Resets on the first 1.0 load. Every player re-spends their points |
| Roles and passwords | User groups and their passwords work as before on dedicated servers |
| In-game promote or demote | Not available on dedicated servers. Use group passwords |
| New server settings | Automatic enemy amount, and reworked enemy damage values. See settings |
| Cross-platform play | Not at launch. PS5 players can't join a PC server |
The conversion is one-way. Keep your own backup of the Early Access world from before the server's first 1.0 start. Keen hasn't published separate dedicated-server notes, so how the server converts a world on its first start isn't documented yet. Expect that start to take longer than usual.
Keen encourages starting a new world, because the early game was reworked. It isn't required. If your group starts fresh, archive the old world first.
Update a self-hosted server
Stop the server and back up the folder named by saveDirectory, plus the
config. Run SteamCMD against your existing installation:
force_install_dir C:\EnshroudedServer
login anonymous
app_update 2278520
quitReplace the directory with your actual install path. Start
enshrouded_server.exe after SteamCMD finishes. The dedicated tool is separate
from the player app; see Keen's
installation guide.
Setting one up for the first time? Follow our
Enshrouded dedicated server setup guide.
If players cannot rejoin
Compare client and server versions, wait for HostOnline, and copy the
allocated address again. After 1.0, have each player close Enshrouded and let
Steam finish the update. Follow connection troubleshooting.
If a world fails to load, stop and keep the failed-start log. Ask support about compatible recovery before replacing the save.
Frequently asked questions
How do I update Enshrouded on berrybyte?
Stop the server and back it up. Enable Auto Update in Settings → Game Settings, then start. Wait for HostOnline and join with an updated Steam client.
Does Enshrouded 1.0 require a new world?
No. Early Access saves work in 1.0. Keen's notes say an older save is backed up and converted to a new, smaller format the first time 1.0 loads it, and the skill tree resets. Keen encourages starting over for the reworked early game, but it isn't required.
Can I roll an Enshrouded world back after 1.0?
Only with a backup taken before the update. The conversion to the 1.0 save format is one-way, so keep your own copy of the Early Access world before the first 1.0 start.
