How to upload or migrate an Enshrouded world
Move a local, Steam Cloud, or hosted Enshrouded world to a dedicated server. Back up the complete world-save family, upload into saveDirectory, and check the world before friends join.
Move the complete save set for the chosen world. The dedicated server holds shared-world progress; each player's character stays on their computer.
Find the save
Close the local game, or stop the source dedicated server, before copying.
| Source | Location |
|---|---|
| Local Windows save | %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\enshrouded |
| Steam Cloud | Your Enshrouded cloud files |
| Another host | The folder named by saveDirectory in enshrouded_server.json |
Keen's save guide
lists the world identifiers. World 1 uses 3ad85aea; other local slots
use other identifiers. Copy all files with the chosen world's prefix,
including its -index, rolling copies, and metadata.

Keep a source copy
Put the complete world-save family in a separate folder on your computer. Do not delete the original or mix it with character files.
Prepare the destination
Match the source game version for the first move.
Stop the destination and create a backup.
Read saveDirectory in the root enshrouded_server.json;
the usual destination is ./savegame.
Check the destination world slot
A normal dedicated server uses the first-world save family. If your source is a different local slot, ask support to align its filenames before upload. Do not rename just one rolling file.
Upload the complete set
Move the destination's existing world files outside the active save folder. Upload the matching source set through Files or SFTP. Keep the index and numbered files from the same copy.
Join and verify
Start, wait for HostOnline, and join.
Check a known base, Flame Altar, and world progress.
Stop and start once more to check that the world persists.
If a fresh world appears
Stop before anyone builds. Check saveDirectory, the world prefix,
folder nesting, and whether the index was copied. Restore the destination
backup if necessary; keep the source untouched.
Make the move and a major version update separate steps. Enshrouded 1.0 compatibility needs checking against its final release notes.
Frequently asked questions
Does moving an Enshrouded world move my character?
No. The dedicated server stores the shared world; character progress remains on each player's computer. Keep each player's character saves separately.
Which Enshrouded save files should I upload?
Keep every file belonging to the chosen world together, including numbered rolling copies, the -index file, and metadata. Do not mix files from different worlds or backups.
