How to set up and join an Enshrouded server

Start your Enshrouded server on berrybyte, set your world name and role passwords, and invite friends using the address from your dashboard. Includes backups, existing worlds and preparing for 1.0.

On berrybyte, we install Enshrouded after checkout. Once the world has loaded, share the Server address from your dashboard and the password your friends should use. You do not need to keep your own computer running for them to play.

Start your server

Choose your plan and location

Open Enshrouded server hosting. Choose 8, 12 or 16 player slots and a location close to your group. Continue to checkout to choose billing and pay. See Create your first server for the full checkout walkthrough.

Let installation finish

Your dashboard shows setup progress. Installation and the first world load can take several minutes. If the server is offline after installation, press Start. Wait for Console to report HostOnline before inviting players.

Choose your name and passwords

Stop the server before changing settings. Give it a name you recognise in Settings → Game Settings. Enshrouded uses role passwords to control access; check the userGroups section in enshrouded_server.json through Files. Share a friend-role password with your group and keep the admin password private.

Choose how you want to play

The same file contains gameSettingsPreset. Choose a difficulty preset or use custom settings. Save your changes and start the server again. Keen’s gameplay settings reference explains the individual options, and its role guide explains permissions.

Invite your friends

  1. On your server’s Overview, copy Server address, including the port.
  2. In Enshrouded, open Play → Join → Search by IPv4/Domain and enter it.
  3. Enter the password for your assigned role and join.
  4. Favourite the server so it is easy to find next time.

Use the address from your dashboard rather than guessing a default port. If you browse by name, enable Show dedicated server in the filters. Keen’s dedicated-server FAQ also covers the server browser. If joining fails, follow our Enshrouded connection fixes.

Bring an existing world

Keep a copy of the original save, then open a support ticket for free migration help. Tell us whether the world is on your computer or another host. Do not send your Steam password or give another host your berrybyte login.

The shared world goes on the server; character progression stays with each player. Keen’s save management guide shows where to find local and Steam Cloud saves. Keep the complete world-save files together, including the index and rolling copies. Before replacing anything on the destination, stop the server and make a backup.

Backups and the 1.0 update

Enshrouded 1.0 is announced for October 15, 2026. These steps cover the current PC release. Check Keen’s launch notes for changes to joining, saves and platform compatibility before moving a world to 1.0.

Use Backups to create an extra copy before a major update. With Auto Update enabled, starting your server checks for a new build. Update your game too, then let the server finish loading before joining.

For a console group, ask support about current compatibility before buying. The console game announcement alone does not confirm that it can join these PC dedicated servers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I join my Enshrouded server?

Wait for the world to finish loading, then copy Server address from Overview. Open Play → Join → Search by IPv4/Domain in Enshrouded and enter that full address, including its port. Use the password for the role you were given.

Can I bring an existing Enshrouded world?

Yes. Back up the original world and open a support ticket for free migration help. The dedicated server holds the shared world, while each player's character progress stays on their computer.
