How to upload or migrate a Hytale world
Move a local or hosted Hytale world to a dedicated server. Copy the full universe folder, preserve player data and required mods, select the world in config.json, and verify before inviting friends.
Move the complete universe/ folder, including world and player data.
Keep the original copy until you have joined the destination and checked
your progress.
Find the source
For a local world, close the game. In the launcher, open Settings → User Data,
then Saves/<your save>/. Hypixel's file-location guide
documents this location and explains why the launcher button is safer for
custom installs or different patchlines.
| Source | Copy |
|---|---|
| Local world | universe/ inside the chosen save, plus its required mods |
| Another dedicated server | Root universe/, required mods/, and copies of its config and permission files |
The Server Manual
identifies universe/ as the world and player save directory.
Upload to berrybyte
Back up both copies
Save and close the source world. Stop the destination server and create a backup of its current files.
Match the build and mods
Use the same patchline for the first migration. Install compatible copies of the required mods. Change versions after the imported world works.
Transfer universe
Use SFTP for the folder.
Move the destination's existing universe outside the active path,
then upload the source universe at the server root.
The result should be universe/worlds/<world name>/, not
universe/universe/worlds/.
Select the world
Open the destination's root config.json. Set Defaults.World
to the intended folder name under universe/worlds/.
Keep the destination's other settings unless you intend to change them.
Start and check
Start, complete authentication if requested, and join. Check a known build, inventory, spawn, and another player's progress. Restart and check again before the group plays.
Config and access
Review source copies of permissions.json, whitelist.json, and bans.json
before transferring them. They control who can use the destination.
Keep destination authentication separate. Do not copy source auth tokens or credential files into a different server.
If you load a fresh world, stop immediately and check the folder nesting,
Defaults.World, and Console errors. Restore the destination backup if needed;
the original source should still be untouched.
Frequently asked questions
Which files do I need to move a Hytale world?
Keep the complete universe folder, which contains worlds and player data, plus the mods and configuration the world needs. Copying only one world folder can leave player progress or dependencies behind.
Why did my uploaded Hytale world not load?
Check that universe is at the server root and Defaults.World in the root config.json matches the intended folder under universe/worlds. Also check the source build and required mods.
