Hytale Chapter 1 update: how to prepare and update your server

Hytale Chapter 1 releases October 12, 2026. Back up before the first launch, because existing worlds upgrade when the new version loads them. Then check mods, keep the release patchline, update the server, and match every player's game version.

Hytale Chapter 1 releases on Monday, October 12, 2026. Hypixel hasn't announced a release time yet. Your server needs updating on launch day, because players on Chapter 1 can't join a server still on the old version.

Most of the work happens before launch. Back up your world, write down your mods, and decide when to update.

Back up before the first Chapter 1 start. Hypixel's Update 7 pre-release notes say existing worlds upgrade themselves the first time they load on the new version. A backup taken after that captures the already upgraded world.

Before October 12

Take a backup while the server is stopped

Ask players to log off, stop the server, and create a backup. A backup taken while the server is stopped captures a complete save. Keep it until Chapter 1 has been running well on your world for a while. See Hytale backups and restore for what a complete backup contains.

Write down your mods

In Files, open mods/ and note each file name and version. Keep copies of the mod configs. Then check each author's page for a Chapter 1 build. Removing a mod that adds blocks or items can affect saved builds, so test removals on a copy first.

Agree on how your group continues

Keep the existing world, or start a fresh one for Chapter 1 and keep the old one backed up. Both work. Decide before launch so nobody plays on the wrong world.

Plan a maintenance window

Updating takes a few minutes to download and start, plus time to test. Tell your group when the server will be down and when to come back.

Want to try Chapter 1 early? Run the pre-release patchline on a separate server with a copy of your world. Every player joining it must switch their launcher to pre-release too. Keep your main world on release.

Update on berrybyte

Once Chapter 1 is out on the release patchline:

Stop the server and take a final backup

Tell players you're starting maintenance, stop the server, and wait for the backup to finish.

Check Auto Update and the patchline

Open Settings → Game Settings. Turn on Auto Update and confirm Patchline is release. Auto Update checks the selected patchline each time the server starts.

Update your mods

Upload the Chapter 1 builds of your mods to mods/. Leave out any mod without a compatible release for now.

Start the server and watch Console

Start the server and wait until the download and startup finish. If Hytale asks for authentication, complete Hytale Link.

Test with one player first

Update one player's game, then join by address. Check the world, inventories, and important mod features before inviting everyone.

Update a self-hosted server

The Hytale Server Manual documents a built-in updater. It needs the official layout: Assets.zip and start.sh or start.bat in the parent folder, and the server started from Server/. Installs made with the Hytale Downloader or --bootstrap already use this layout.

/update status Show the current version and update status
/update check Check for an update
/update download Download the update to updater/staging/
/update apply --confirm Back up files, then shut down with exit code 8

The wrapper script sees exit code 8, applies the staged files, and starts the new version. Your config, saves, and mods are kept.

To make the updater back up the world as well, run the server with a backup directory configured (--backup --backup-dir backups). The default wrapper scripts already do this. RunBackupBeforeUpdate in config.json then takes a full backup before applying.

If the server crashes right after an update, the wrapper script points you to updater/backup/, which holds the previous server files. Those files don't undo the world upgrade, so restore your pre-update world backup at the same time.

If something goes wrong

SymptomWhat to do
Players can't join after updatingCheck every player and the server are on the same patchline and version. See can't connect
A mod fails to loadFind the mod name in Console, then remove it or install a Chapter 1 build
Hytale asks the server to authenticate againComplete Hytale Link
The world looks wrong or won't loadStop the server, keep the current files, and don't keep restarting

Restoring a world backup doesn't change the server version. A world already opened by Chapter 1 can't simply be moved back to the old build. On berrybyte, contact support with the time of your backup and the startup log, and we'll work out the safest way back with you.

Frequently asked questions

When does Hytale Chapter 1 release?

Hytale Chapter 1 releases on Monday, October 12, 2026. Hypixel has not announced a release time yet, so plan your server maintenance for when the update actually appears on the release patchline.

Will Hytale Chapter 1 wipe my server's world?

No world reset has been announced. Hypixel's Update 7 pre-release notes say existing worlds upgrade themselves the first time they load on the new version. Back up before that first load, because an upgraded world may not open on the old version again.

Do I have to update my Hytale server for Chapter 1?

Yes. Hytale clients and servers must run the exact same protocol version. Once players update their game to Chapter 1, they cannot join a server still running the previous version.

Will my Hytale mods work after Chapter 1?

Only if each mod's author supports the new build. Write down your mod versions, check each author's page, and test the update on a copy of your world before you update the server everyone plays on.

Can I roll a Hytale server back after updating to Chapter 1?

Partly. Rolling back needs both the old server files and a world backup taken before the update, because the new version upgrades the world when it loads it. On berrybyte, contact support before attempting a downgrade. Self-hosted servers keep the previous files in updater/backup/.

Can I play Chapter 1 before October 12?

Chapter 1 content is being tested on the pre-release patchline. Run it on a separate test server with a copy of your world, and switch the launcher of every player joining it to pre-release too.
