How to install a Minecraft modpack on your server
Install a Minecraft modpack on berrybyte from checkout or Overview → Modpack → Change. Packs come from Modrinth, CurseForge, and FTB with the loader already set. Every player must run the same pack version in their launcher.
A Minecraft modpack is a matched set of mods, a loader (Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge), and a Minecraft version. On berrybyte you pick the pack. The installer sets the loader and version, then your friends install that same pack in their launcher.
Start from modpack hosting if you do not have a server yet. The Modpack RAM Requirements tool shows a starting plan for the pack you picked.
Install a pack on a new server
Pick the pack
Open modpack hosting, or start from Minecraft server hosting and attach a pack in the plan picker. Search Modrinth, CurseForge, or FTB.
Pick RAM and region
Use the RAM the pack recommends, or start at 8 GB if you are unsure. Choose the region closest to your players.
Check out
Keep the pack selected, sign in, and pay. berrybyte installs that version and its loader.
Wait until Console is ready
First boot can take several minutes. Watch Console and wait until startup finishes before anyone joins.

Host Better MCOrder Better MC [FORGE] BMC4, start at 8 GB, and get your friends in.
Join your serverCopy Server address and connect from Java Multiplayer.
Change the pack on a server you already have
Changing pack, loader, or version can reset game files. Create a backup first if you want the current world back.
Back up and stop the server
Create a backup from the dashboard, then stop the server from Overview.
Open the pack picker
Use Overview → Modpack → Change, or Settings → Game Settings → Server software and choose Modpacks.
Search and confirm
Pick the pack and version. The picker warns you when the install needs the server offline and when world data may be replaced.
Wait for setup, then start
Do not edit files until setup finishes. Start the server and wait for Console to finish booting.
Install the same pack on every computer
The server does not send mods to joining players. Each person installs the pack locally.
Use a launcher that can install the pack
Modrinth App, CurseForge app, or FTB App, matching where the pack is published.
Install the same name and version
Check the pack shown on the server in the dashboard. Search that exact name, not a look-alike (Pixelmon is not Cobblemon; ATM10 Aeronautics is not All the Mods 10).
Launch that profile
Start Minecraft from the pack profile, let it finish loading, then open Multiplayer and paste Server address from Overview.
A vanilla client, a different pack, or a different pack version usually cannot join. Update the server and every launcher together.
Custom or missing packs
Most public packs are in the installer. If yours is a private zip:
- Create a backup.
- Set Server software to the loader and Minecraft version the pack needs (Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge).
- Stop the server. Upload the server pack through Files, keeping the
folder layout the author shipped (
mods/, configs, scripts). - Start once and read Console for a missing library or a wrong Java version.
Settings → Startup shows the resolved Java command. It is read-only. Open a support ticket if the pack needs a custom flag.
If something goes wrong
The server crashes on first start
Confirm the plan has enough RAM, then read Console for a missing mod or the wrong Java version. Heavy packs often need more than 8 GB once the world is generating. See Aikar's flags if the dashboard shows 100% RAM and you want a real usage number.
Players cannot join
They need the same pack and version as the server. Have them reinstall that profile, then join with the full Server address from Overview. See How to join a Minecraft server.
Setup sits on Installing for a long time
Large CurseForge and FTB packs download hundreds of files. Leave it running. If nothing has moved after 20 minutes, open a support ticket from the server menu.
I want my old world back after a pack change
Restore the backup you took before the switch. A pack change can replace
world/ with a fresh map.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install Forge or Fabric myself?
No. Choosing the pack sets the Minecraft version and loader. You do not type a Forge build into Startup or reinstall the server by hand.
Do my friends need the same modpack as the server?
Yes. Everyone joins with the same pack and version installed in a launcher such as the Modrinth App, CurseForge app, or FTB App. A vanilla or mismatched client cannot join.
How much RAM does a Minecraft modpack need?
Most packs want 8 GB to start. Heavy kitchen-sink packs can need more once people explore. Check the Modpack RAM Requirements tool, then pick a plan that matches.
Can I change modpack on a server that already exists?
Yes. Open Overview → Modpack → Change, or Settings → Game Settings → Server software and choose Modpacks. Create a backup first. Switching packs resets game files and can replace the world unless you restore it afterwards.
Why is the first start taking so long?
Large packs spend several minutes downloading mods and booting. Watch Console and wait until startup finishes before anyone tries to join.
What if my pack is not in the installer?
Browse /modpacks or search in the picker first. For a private or custom zip, pick the matching loader and Minecraft version, then upload the server files through Files after a backup.
