How to host a Medieval MC server
Start a Medieval MC [FORGE] MMC4 server from the CurseForge release, join from the same version, and fix version and memory problems.
Use the Medieval MC server hosting page. It opens with Medieval MC [FORGE] MMC4, Forge, Minecraft 1.20.1, and the starting RAM already selected.
| Modpack | Medieval MC [FORGE] - MMC4 |
|---|---|
| Modpack source | CurseForge #876851 |
| Version | v39 |
| Minecraft / mod loader | 1.20.1 / Forge |

| Release status | Use the CurseForge release. The Modrinth listing stopped at v30, so a Modrinth client cannot join a v39 server. |
This is MMC4 [FORGE] for Minecraft 1.20.1. MMC5 [NeoForge], MMC3 [Fabric], and MMC2 [Fabric] are different packs and can't join. Install MMC4 from CurseForge, because the Modrinth listing stopped at v30.
Create the Medieval MC server
Open the Medieval MC page
Go to Medieval MC server hosting. Check that the pack name is Medieval MC [FORGE] - MMC4.
Choose a plan and location
Start with the RAM shown in the server details. Pick the region closest to most of your friends.
Finish checkout
Keep the pack attached. berrybyte installs the official server pack, Forge, and Java 17.
Wait for the first start
Open Console and wait until startup finishes. With over 350 mods, the first start takes several minutes.
Install Medieval MC on each computer
Install from CurseForge
In the CurseForge app, search for Medieval MC [FORGE] - MMC4 and install it. You can also open its CurseForge page.
Match the server's version
Pick the exact release shown in the server details.
Give the game enough memory
This is a large pack. We suggest at least 6 GB in CurseForge's Minecraft settings, and 8 GB if your computer has room.
Join the server
When Console shows the server is ready, open Overview and copy Server address. In the Medieval MC profile, open Multiplayer, add the server, and paste the address. Include the port.
The pack also has a built-in world sharing feature. It only works while the host is in the game. A dedicated server keeps the world up when the host logs off.
Update Medieval MC safely
Create a backup
Open Backups and save a restore point. Colonies and builds are hard to rebuild.
Stop the server
Wait for the world to finish saving.
Change the whole pack
Use Overview → Modpack → Change and pick the new Medieval MC release. Don't swap single mods by hand.
Update every player
Move each CurseForge profile to the same release, then start the server.
See Minecraft backups before your first update.
Fix common Medieval MC problems
A player sees a mod mismatch. They usually installed the old Modrinth version, another edition like MMC5, or a different release. Reinstall from CurseForge and match the server details.
The game crashes on the player's computer. Raise that player's memory to at least 6 GB. The server's RAM doesn't help a client that is out of memory.
The server lags as colonies grow. Each colony adds citizens that the server has to run. Move up to 12 GB before you remove mods.
